Why create a reading edition

A list of links preserves options but leaves the comparison and sequencing work to you. A focused edition groups a small set of ideas around one question and gives each item enough context to decide whether to read further.

The purpose is not to replace the original publication. It is to create a personal return point that links the selected idea back to its source.

Select before formatting

Begin with a topic, date range, source set, or time budget. Selection should happen before layout so the document reflects a deliberate editorial constraint rather than the size of the inbox.

• Limit the number of ideas or total reading time.
• Keep source attribution and links with each selected idea.

What the PDF e-book should contain

A useful edition names the scope, explains the selected ideas, shows why each matters, and gives you a clear next step. It can include a short contents list and estimated reading time without pretending that every source has been exhaustively summarized.

The original newsletters remain the canonical source. The e-book is a private synthesis prepared from the material you chose and the access you authorized.

Choose delivery and storage deliberately

Gmail supplies the newsletter inputs. Drive can be connected if you want the artifact stored there, and Calendar can be connected if you want to reserve reading time. Those optional connections should be requested for a visible purpose.

Email delivery is a separate action. If a workflow proposes sending the e-book, review the recipient and content before approving the send.

Make the first edition intentionally small
